Happy Early Voting Day!

I mean, it’s not a holiday or anything, but today is when North Carolina early voting sites open, including one on Durham Tech’s Main Campus (in the Newton building, room 4-141, accessed from the back parking lot–near the construction classrooms) for Durham County voters.

Early voting begins Thursday, Oct. 15 and ends on Saturday, Oct. 31. I voted today at he Newton Building and it took me about an hour to vote– while it wasn’t ridiculously busy like some of the news from other states, the poll workers made sure we kept appropriately distanced, got our own pen (to keep!), and were spaced out in the voting site. Everyone was wearing a mask and it felt very safe and organized.

During early voting, you can update your registration or register to vote, drop off your absentee ballot at an early voting location, or cast your ballot

A quick reminder–

Charlie, a very handsome black and white cat, with his paw on his cat ballot where he has written in Mr. Snuffles for purresident and voted "YES, snacks all the time" on the more snacks for cats initiative.

Don’t be like Charlie Lewis– no ballot selfies or pictures of your completed ballot posted to social media or the web (or anywhere, really) for NC voters.

A very handsome orange kitty named Mr. Snuffles who is blurry because he is biting his I Voted sticker.

Do be like Mr. Snuffles Callison– yes to voting sticker or polling place selfies! (Although perhaps don’t eat your “I Voted” sticker.)

North Carolina voters–

Your vote, your voice. Be heard. Vote by November 3.

Check your registration and voting procedures outside of NC.

Shape Your Future: Start Here. United States Census, 2020.

Oh… and has your household filled out the 2020 US Census? The NEW deadline is October 15 and all sorts of important things come from it (federal childcare and healthcare dollars, funding for emergency services like fire departments, road improvement funding, federal representation, etc.).

Remember that renters need to complete the Census, too, and ANYONE living in the US or in your household (like babies or children). Where were you on April 1?

Mr. Snuffles' campaign poster-- Vote Snuffles for moar treats. He is wearing a tie and has a very distinguished portrait behind him with an Uncle Sam hat to show his patriotic competence.
Mr. Snuffles ran a convincing write-in campaign for Purresident.
Charlie was convinced… but also wanted to play with the ballot.

Send us your “I Voted” selfie and we’ll compile a Durham Tech collage!
