Want to listen to your favorite anime in Japanese? Want to read primary sources for your research in German? Just want to brush up that language you studied for years in school, but somehow can’t seem to remember at all?

What is the Read Great Things Challenge?
The Read Great Things Challenge is a personal reading challenge sponsored by the Durham Tech Library that encourages folks to diversify and/or increase their reading goals by completing books throughout 2021 that fit into at least 10 of the following 12 categories:

This database offers job and industry profiles, job hunting and workplace skills, career exploration and industry resources all in many formats, from streaming video to chat. If you want, you can create a personal login and save content to your own folder.
Use the link from the Library’s Articles, Journals, and Databases box on the library homepage (F for Ferguson’s) and log in off-campus by using your Durham Tech username and password–the same one you would use for Sakai or Self-Service. Today is the last day to cast your vote! Join your Durham Tech community and cast your vote if you’re eligible and haven’t already!
In order to vote today, you’ll need to go to your assigned polling place and can vote until 7:30 p.m.– if you’re in line at 7:30 p.m., no matter how long the line may be, you can cast your ballot. Learn more from the NC State Board of Elections about what to expect when voting on Election Day, including links to download a sample ballot.
No ID is required.
As a voter, you have rights! Here’s a concise list from Democracy NC about your Voter’s Bill of Rights. (Also available in Spanish.) Remember that voter intimidation is against both state and federal law. Report any instances of voter intimidation to the election official at your polling place
If you’d like to drop off your Vote-by-Mail/Absentee Ballot in person, you can do so on Election Day at your county’s Board of Elections office by 5:00 p.m. All ballots sent through the mail must be postmarked by Nov. 3 and received by Nov. 12.
Unfortunately, if you have not registered to vote, you can no longer do so, but if you have registered and your name is not found at your polling place, you have the right to complete a provisional ballot.

The Durham Tech Library has access to three test prep databases: BoardVitals, PrepSTEP, and TERC.
All Durham Tech students, faculty, and staff are able to access these databases on and off-campus. Log in using your Durham Tech username and password, the same as you’d use for Self-Service, WebAdvisor, or Sakai.

Happy Early Voting Day!
I mean, it’s not a holiday or anything, but today is when North Carolina early voting sites open, including one on Durham Tech’s Main Campus (in the Newton building, room 4-141, accessed from the back parking lot–near the construction classrooms) for Durham County voters.
I voted! This is my first time being a Durham County voter and working on the Main Campus while we have early voting available (I’m normally in Hillsborough). 
The back parking lot of the Newton Building (Lot H) is where you’ll find the early voting entrance.
Early voting begins Thursday, Oct. 15 and ends on Saturday, Oct. 31. I voted today at he Newton Building and it took me about an hour to vote– while it wasn’t ridiculously busy like some of the news from other states, the poll workers made sure we kept appropriately distanced, got our own pen (to keep!), and were spaced out in the voting site. Everyone was wearing a mask and it felt very safe and organized.
During early voting, you can update your registration or register to vote, drop off your absentee ballot at an early voting location, or cast your ballot!
