Let’s Talk Money!

April is Financial Literacy Month!

What’s that? April is almost over?

Better late than never!

Financial Literacy Month

Sometimes the most useful pieces of financial literacy are how to negotiate initial salary or pay raises, how to get that public service loan forgiveness, how to reduce medical bills (ask for that bill to be itemized), and other things that involve more than teaching someone how to open a checking account. See below for resources Durham Tech and the library offer for helping you handle your money.

Allow me to direct you to Larry Chapman. Financial Coach at Durham Tech. Students, staff, and faculty can make an appointment to get one on one financial help for FREE. (If that’s not a great return on investment, I don’t know what is!)

Making an appointment is easy. And, if you’re unsure about talking a stranger through your financial situation, give this Out Loud in the Library episode a listen. Hear for yourself who he is, what he does, and why seeing him is helpful.

The library also has streaming videos and books to check out for personal finance advice.

Money is complicated. Income tax! APY! Fees! Bills! Direct Deposit! Retirement! College funds! Credit scores! COH! Net Income! Tax Prep! Depreciation! IRA! HSA! Adjustable rates! Renter Insurance! Mortgages!

No one can keep track of it all. Get help when you need it.
