Fall Library Operations: Tech and Spaces and Services!

Monday, August 16 is the start of the fall semester. Are you ready?

Check the Library and College website for up-to-date hours. The Main Campus and Orange County Campus Libraries will open with our fall hours on August 16. The Northern Durham Center will begin fall hours on Monday, August 23. Hours are subject to change, but changes will be posted online if needed.

What’s new or back for the fall semester?

Well, classes are back in person (still online, too!) and everyone must wear a mask while indoors on any Durham Tech campus location. More information about masking, campus access, food and drink, and other questions about being on-campus during the Fall semester can be found on Durham Tech’s Fall 2021 Guidelines page— check it out!

Students should bring a student ID or photo ID– Main Campus is using a scanning system to check in (which can also be used for contact tracing). All guests MUST show a photo ID to use the Library.

What’s new in the library in the Fall? Keep reading for all the details!

Reserve textbooks are available at the Main and Orange County Campus. We may not have the most up-to-date version of your textbook, so check out our sort and filterable On-Shelf Reserves spreadsheet to make sure.

Faculty and staff, if you need to get us a new edition or copy of a book for students, please let us know (library@durhamtech.edu).

Need to print or copy? Students can use their $20 print credit at the Main Campus to use the copiers to both copy and print through Papercut, our print management system. Guests can create and add money to Papercut accounts, too. We currently do not have wireless printing, so make sure you bring a USB drive or have your documents available in the cloud or in your email to print. We also do not currently have pay-by-card available to add money to your account, please bring cash.

Study rooms are open again!

Need a place to study quietly by yourself on Main Campus? The Quiet Room (with fresh new furniture and air purifiers in every individual study room!) will reopen the first week of classes. Students can check out individual quiet rooms at the circulation desk.

There’s silent study space in the Quiet Room as well– check out our new (as of Spring 2020) furniture!

There are also locations around all three campus libraries designed for quiet study. The Orange County Campus and Northern Durham Center are mostly quiet study areas, so feel free to visit out other campuses if you need a place away from home (with nice, strong WIFI and no WFH “colleagues”) to work.

Need a place to study with a friend or with a group? We have several areas around the Library to meet your study needs, including quieter areas upstairs and downstairs behind the staircase and a less-quiet glassed-in area downstairs. We also have several small and larger group study rooms available for checkout (with air purifiers in each room–thanks to Institute of Museum and Library Services under the provisions of the Library Services and Technology Act (LSTA) as administered by the State Library of North Carolina, a division of the NC Department of Natural and Cultural Resources for the funding that allowed us to purchase the air purifiers).

Need to use a computer? The Main Campus Library has a PC computer lab upstairs. We plan on opening the downstairs student-only lab later in the semester. Both the Northern Durham Center and Orange County Campus have PC computers available for use.

Need a Chromebook or computer to do your schoolwork at home? Durham Tech can also help with that! Start by filling out the Technology Request form and you’ll be contacted with your options, including one of the Library’s loaner Chromebooks.

As usual, we have books, databases, events (Crafternoons–coming soon!), library instruction, and lots of ways that we can help you succeed in the Fall 2021 semester and engage with the Durham Tech community.

We look forward to helping you meet your goals at Durham Tech!
