Streaming Video with Films on Demand

Hello, Everyone!

As we move classes online, don’t forget about our awesome streaming video collection: Films on Demand.

Films on Demand

Films on Demand has over 43,000 titles with content relevant for all kinds of subjects, from welding instructional videos to PBS documentaries.

To access, navigate to it by using the  Articles, Journals, and Databases box on the Library website. All databases can be accessed at home by using the same Durham Tech username and password that would be used to log in to Sakai or Self-Service.

Instructors can embed these videos into a Sakai site with ease and no concerns about copyright. Students can use video clips in presentations and can use multimedia as resources for assignments.

Things you can do with just your Durham Tech username and password after logging in through the database link on the library webpage:

  • Watch streaming videos online.
  • Generate automatic citations for videos in MLA and APA.
  • Read the transcript of a video or search within it for keywords.
  • Download and use the Films on Demand app for Apple or Android devices.
  • View the closed captions with the video.
  • Increase or decrease the speed of the video.
  • Share full videos or video segments with links or embed codes. Example: Check out this documentary on Robin Williams here!

Things you can do after making your very own free account with your Durham Tech email address:

  • Save videos in folders for later.
  • Create playlists and share them with others. (Logging in is not required to view a shared playlist.) Example: An exercise playlist can be found here.
  • Create custom segments of a video. (Don’t want to see the whole 5 minute segment? Create a segment of the two minutes you want to see.)
  • Upload intro videos for playlists. (Say hello and explain why the following videos were chosen for the playlist.)
